Personal Development
At Netherthorpe a personalised personal development curriculum is planned by a specialist team of staff. In years 7, 8 and 9 this is delivered by the specialist team. In years 10, 11 and sixth form, form Tutors are responsible for its delivery and are equipped with all the necessary materials required. The aim of personal development is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to better equip them in life. The personal development programme is holistic in nature, with the student at the centre of everything we do. Students are exposed to a number of key areas in line with statutory frameworks, this includes Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic education (PSHCE), careers and next steps guidance as well as opportunities to participate in extra-curricular and enrichment activities.
The personal development curriculum is shaped by involving all stakeholders – students, staff, parents and external providers. All have opportunities to provide feedback through the quality assurance system, which is then utilised to develop and improve current practice. This enables us to provide a programme which is relevant and meaningful to our students. We have a designated student space, in room 120 known at the ‘PD Hub’. Students are able to access this space for seeking wellbeing advice, careers support and participating in enrichment activities.
Students are exposed to six themes in personal development, these are:
-
Beliefs, Values and Identity
-
Mental Health & Wellbeing
-
Careers & Preparation for Next Steps
-
Relationships & Sex Education
-
Economic & Financial Wellbeing
-
Diversity & Values
