Workshop Wednesday

On Wednesday 3rd July a selected group of students worked with flautist Poppy Wheeler from Derbyshire Music Services on a lunchtime session entitled “Workshop Wednesday”.  Each week for the last four weeks various professional musicians have held these lunchtime workshops introducing students to their specialist instruments, playing pieces for them and then encouraging the students to have a go themselves, and nearly 100 students from Years 7 and 8 have taken part in this cultural experience.  Workshops have included piano, violin, flute and trumpet.  The idea behind this project is to encourage more students to take music lessons within the school.  The school have also successfully sourced funding meaning students can participate in these additional lessons for only £1.65 per week.  More workshops are planned for the future, including guitar, ukulele and drums.  If students (from any year groups) wish to participate, please ask them to speak to their music teacher.
