Fantastic Careers Provision

For the first time in the school’s history, Netherthorpe School has scored 100% on all 8 Gatsby Benchmarks. Due to its exceptional careers offer, the school is now considered one of the highest ranked schools nationwide for its careers provision across all age groups. As a result of this the Careers staff at the school have been frequently asked to share best practice at Careers Leader meetings and other prestigious events throughout the year.

What are the Gatsby Benchmarks?

The Gatsby Benchmarks were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman. They define what world class careers provision in education looks like and provide a clear framework for organising the careers provision at a school or college. The benchmarks are outlined in statutory guidance and, as a school, it is our responsibility to oversee the implementation of the benchmarks in our education setting.

The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks are:

  • A stable careers programme
  • Learning from careers and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each student
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal guidance

The Personal Development Team will continue to strive for excellence in this area by developing a whole school approach to its curriculum delivery that provides all students with up-to-date, impartial, independent and varied careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) as defined by the CDI framework and the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.

The Personal Development Team would like to thank Charlotte Bushell and the D2N2 Hub Team, MSE Systems Limited (our cornerstone employer link) and Carmel Haughey (our independent careers advisor) for all the incredible support they have provided over the past few years. This truly is an incredible achievement.
