Behaviour Expectations at Netherthorpe School
At Netherthorpe School, we believe everyone has the right to learn in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. That’s why we all play a part in making our school a place where everyone can succeed and feel valued.
You are an important part of our school community
By showing respect, kindness and responsibility, you help make Netherthorpe School a brilliant place to be – for yourself and for everyone around you. If you ever need support, speak to your tutor, Head of Year, or any member of staff. We’re here for you.
Our Core Beliefs
We believe that:
- Everyone should feel safe and free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
- Good behaviour helps everyone to learn, grow, and thrive.
- Students should be treated fairly and with respect – and should show the same to others.
- Positive behaviour is something to be recognised and celebrated.
- If students are struggling with behaviour, they should be supported, not just punished.

Supporting You to Succeed

- Mental health and wellbeing
- Special educational needs
- Personal or family issues
If you’re finding things difficult, you’re not alone. We’re here to help, and we’ll work with you to understand what’s going on and give you the support you need.
Promoting Wellbeing and Resilience
We want all students to:
- Feel supported and listened to.
- Learn how to manage their emotions and bounce back from setbacks.
- Know where to go for help – whether that’s a teacher, mentor, counsellor or a trusted adult.
- Our whole-school approach includes
- A caring school culture and positive relationships.
- Lessons and activities that teach life skills and promote mental health.
- Working with families and the wider community to make sure students get consistent support.
Rewards and Consequences
We celebrate students who:
- Go above and beyond in their behaviour, attitude or effort.
- Show kindness, leadership or resilience.
- Make a positive contribution to school life.
- When behaviour doesn’t meet our expectations, we
- Use fair and proportionate consequences.
- Aim to help students learn from mistakes.
