What is a form tutor - What do I do during form time?

When you arrive in Year 7 you will be allocated a Form Tutor. Your Form Tutor will be your first point of contact if you have any worries, problems or questions. Your Form Tutor will be in your form room every morning to meet and greet you and make you feel welcome. You’ll see this person every morning and they will check your equipment and uniform, talk through the lessons of the day and give you any important information. On Monday mornings we hold a ‘Culture and Conduct Assembly that will cover many different things and you will do some work around your attendance. There’s also lots of other different activities to do with your form tutor, for example, you’ll go to assembly, be read to, take quizzes and discuss your learning journey.

We Are A Phone Free School

We understand that you might need your phone so that your parents can contact you at the end of the day, and you are able to bring your phone to school. However, phones are not allowed to be seen or heard in school and should always be switched off from the moment you enter through the gates to the moment you leave at the end of the day.  Any phones seen or heard will be confiscated for the remainder of the day and will be saved in the main school office where you can get them back from Reception at the end of the day.

If your parent or carer needs to contact you as a matter of urgency, they should ring the school number so that the school is aware of the situation and can get a message to you if necessary. Please speak to a member of staff if you feel you need to contact home for any reason.

Who can I talk to if I am worried?

There are lots of people available to talk to if you are worried and we want everyone at Netherthorpe School to feel safe, secure and happy.  Your Form Tutor is always your first go to person and will usually be available for you to talk to. There is also Mrs Sawyer (the Student Support Leader for Year 7) as well as Mr Brown (KS3 Progress Leader), the Safeguarding Team including Mr Lindley, our team of Midday Supervisors and our Senior Leadership Team including Mr Wainwright.

If you are concerned about anything, find the nearest adult and they will be able to help you. We are a family school with a long history of looking after our students.
